LDS DC Church Virtual Tour

 OBJECTIVE

Showcase a four-year renovation with a 360 virtual tour of the Latter Day Saints Temple in Washington D.C.

PUTTING THE PUZZLE TOGETHER

More than depict an architectural space, the VR tour needed to inform viewers about LDS rituals and the sacred spaces in which they are performed. We worked with the LDS administration to craft a storyboard and script that would acquaint viewers with the Temple & practices regardless of viewers’ level of familiarity with the religion.

Movement (notoriously difficult to achieve with stereoscopic video) is introduced through a combination of a torso mount modified to carry the 360 camera above the operator’s head while gliding on a hoverboard. Footage was shot at a high framerate so that it could be slowed down in post-production to help smooth any bumps.

FINAL PRODUCT

This 3D 360 video was released in conjunction with the re-opening Temple so that the global LDS community could join virtually to appreciate the renovation alongside the congregants attending in-person.

The result: one of the most sincerely positive and grateful YouTube comment sections we’ve ever seen!
